As an independent insurance agent I work with a 101 year old family owned agency and we insure thousands with dozens of carriers. We are licensed and insure commercial and personal lines throughout the US. I left a big single product line insurer long ago for the a lot of the reasons stated here. As a professional that has REAL relationships with my clients it is equally as frustrating for me to have to call a client to explain a rate increase. The reasons for them are many and too long to go into here. The one advantage I now have is I can re-quote with 10 different carriers whenever there is an increase to try and help save as much as I can. One of the biggest factors with auto rates currently is distracted driving. It is killing more people than it has in a decade. A good number of accidents don’t even have skid marks anymore. People are plowing into things at full speed causing more damage and injuries. Cars are also more expensive to fix, they have computers, sensors in the body, cameras, etc. Here is an article that helps explain it a little. http://fortune.com/2018/04/… Insurance is not fun, I have paid personally for 35 years and have never made 1 claim and I feel your pain the same on both sides. I can tell you that lowering your coverage is the last thing you should do, there are different strategy’s to help with prices. I have seen family saved by insurance and ruined but not having enough or the right coverage.
